Six Month Smiles FAQs
What is it?
It is a short-term orthodontic treatment that uses specially designed brackets and wires to straighten the teeth and correct cosmetic complaints, achieving a straight, symmetrical smile in under 9 months.
What is the difference between Six Month Smiles and conventional orthodontic treatment?
Six Month Smiles uses clear brackets and specially designed tooth coloured wires to be more discreet than traditional fixed braces. Six Month Smiles aims to correct the cosmetic complaints of the front teeth to give symmetry and a great smile, rather than moving all the teeth into the perfect occlusion (‘bite’) – moving the back teeth can take a much greater amount of time. This gives a quicker and usually more cost-effective result.
What do the braces look like, will I have a mouth full of metal?
The system uses clear brackets and tooth coloured wires to minimise visibility. They are not noticeable from a social distance.
Does it hurt?
Most patients experience little or no discomfort. The procedure requires no anaesthetics or drilling and low forces are used to move the teeth comfortably.
Does it really only take 6 months?
The average treatment time is six months but the length of treatment depends on how crooked or out of line the teeth are to start with. It can take 4-9 months.
Do I need to wear retainers afterwards?
Yes, retainers are required after any tooth straightening procedures to keep the teeth in their final positions and stop them moving post-treatment. These are included in the cost and are fitted straight after the treatment.
Does Six Month Smiles damage the teeth, roots or gums?
There are no more risks than with traditional orthodontics and because the forces used are light and the treatment times short the procedure is comfortable and safe. It is a much more conservative and healthier option for the teeth to achieve an aesthetic smile than veneers or crowns and it gives very predictable results.
What’s the catch!?
There is no catch. If you are an adult with crooked or spaced teeth and wanting to safely and quickly improve the appearance of your smile without a major alteration to your bite, this is the ideal solution! Most adults are candidates for Six Month Smiles.
After a careful examination and discussing your treatment goals, the dentist will discuss the options available to you.
How much does the treatment cost?
The total treatment cost is £2950. This includes all the necessary appointments and materials to complete the treatment, as well as retainers after the treatment.
If paid in full at the commencement of treatment a 5% discount will be given (cost £2802.50), otherwise it can be paid as £850 at the initial records appointment, then equal instalments to be paid every month at the review/adjustment appointments over 6 months (£350 to be paid each month)
